Speaking with TMZ Sports this past Tuesday, Cain Velasquez revealed that he has what it takes to beat Jon Jones. The former UFC heavyweight champion is currently in preparation for his upcoming fight against Francis Ngannou at the Talking Stick Resort Arena, in Phoenix Arizona. Velasquez will be returning to the Octagon following nearly a three-year hiatus from the sport due to his niggling back injuries. Francis Ngannou and Cain Velasquez are expected to square off at UFC Fight Night on February 17th, 2019, while being broadcast on ESPN 1.
After the UFC return of Jon Jones last December, there has been much speculation about the light heavyweight champion’s move to the 265-pound division. Daniel Cormier presently holds heavyweight gold at the UFC and has very recently put off his retirement from the sport, for a later date. Returning from surgery, Velasquez seems hungrier than ever to regain what was once truly his – The UFC Heavyweight Championship. While being a brown belt in the Jiu-Jitsu discipline and an NCAA Division I Wrestler, Velasquez is also a fierce striker with ungodly knockout power.
Velasquez’s return to the UFC opens new windows of opportunity in regards to facing upcoming prospective heavyweights. With the probability of Jones moving up a weight class to fight some of the best athletes in the UFC, fans and critics alike can expect to see a possible super-fight against Cain Velasquez, in the hopeful near future.
