The former UFC champ champ Conor McGregor has been in a lot of trouble and has been surrounded by plenty of controversies lately. McGregor had recently made the headlines for infamously punching an old man in an Irish bar. While at the same time fans had also been wondering if McGregor will ever come back to fight again or has he retired permanently. In a recent interview, McGregor has shed some light on all these matters.

McGregor recently made an appearance Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on ESPN. He talked about how he was extremely eager to return to fighting and wanted to fight in July but could not due to breaking his hand while sparring. He also took responsibility for attacking the old man and apologized to everyone for it, claiming that he was ashamed because of it and had already been making amends. Here’s what he had to say:

I was preparing for the end of July at Madison Square Garden (to fight at). I was eager to get back. I still have it figured out. Like I said I was on such a great trajectory. I Just have to keep taking lessons from my fall and just keep going and not let it happen again, but if not for my hand injury I would have most certainly been back in July. We were getting there in terms of conversation, various opponents were discussed. I didn’t really mind the opponent and I wanted similarities to Khabib to prepare for that, but he does not want that rematch. I just wanted to compete, enough is enough you know, let’s just get me back into the mix.

It doesn’t matter what happened there, I was in the wrong. That man deserved to enjoy his time in the way and for having to end in the way it did and although it was five months ago, and I tried to make amends. But still that does not matter, I was in the wrong. I must come here before you and take accountability and responsibility. I owe it to the people who have been supporting me, to my mother and father and family. I owe it to the people who train me in martial arts. That is not who I am.
