Interim UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is all set to fight UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker is what is described as the biggest fight in Australia’s history.
The fight has got MMA fans excited all over the world and a win over Robert Whittaker could eclipse Adesanya into a mainstream star. The rise of Israel Adesanya has been phenomenal. He made his UFC debut back in February of 2018 and is already fighting for the title in less than two years he has been signed with the UFC.
In a span of the time he has been with the UFC, he has beaten the likes of Derek Brunson, Anderson Silva and also defeated Kelvin Gastelum in his last fight. Despite Robert Whittaker being his biggest challenge till date, he already has his eyes set on a division above him. To be more specific, Adesanya has his eyes set on UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Both fighters have been trading words with each other for a while now and speaking to TheMacLife, the interim champion even had a timeline and a venue in mind.
“I am saying 2021. Probably early. The way I fight 6 fights in 18 months. I beat this guy in first-second round, get another 5 fights. We will see what happens.”
Although Adesanya has set his aspirations high, he has to get past the challenge which is currently at had i.e Robert Whittaker.
