The former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos was brutally knocked out in his last by the dangerous Francis Ngannou. While the result was extremely one sided, JDS still feels that he should get an immediate rematch with Ngannou.
The Brazilian explained in an interview given to MMA Fighting that before the knockout happened, he was doing pretty good in the fight and that Ngannou hit him with a lucky punch to win. Here’s what he had to say:
Look I was fighting against a big guy. Everybody is talking about the power he has, and I know about that. But at the beginning of the fight, I felt so good you know. He kicked me twice, I blocked them twice and I kicked him back twice again. One of the kicks went down and the other one he felt and then I punched him in the body and his eyes were kind of open you know. My strategy wasn’t to try and knock him out in the beginning. It was to move a lot and throw a lot of punches and make him like to follow me.
He has a really long reach and I had put all my power on the overhand right that I threw and once I finished the punch, he connected a little punch right on my ear that I couldn’t dodge. And then I gave my back to him and he kept punching. He won the fight and I’m not taking anything away from him but it was a lucky punch.
