Former UFC Welterweight champion BJ Penn is all set to fight Nik Lentz later this year in the lightweight division. Although fans aren’t thrilled by this fight and rightfully so, as Penn is coming off of a unanimous decision at UFC 237 to Clay Guida.
It was the seventh consecutive loss of his professional career. He hasn’t won a fight in nearly a decade. However, according to UFC president Dana White, it could be the last fight of the Hawaiian legend.
However, Lentz is very eager for this fight as he described that he and Penn have had beef for quite some time now. According to Lentz, the former champ terrorized his wife on social media.
“Every couple of months he would send me direct messages (on Instagram) to threaten me and my family. All kinds of stuff, the guy is a whack job. He has been allowed to be this bad person his entire life because he was good at something,” Lentz said in an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.
“That’s just how it is in America. If you are good at fighting, if you’re good at sports, can catch a ball you can be as much of a dirtbag as you want.”
“So he comes to my Instagram all of the time and when I don’t respond to him he goes on my wife’s Instagram to tell her to tell me to respond to him. It’s ridiculous.” (H/T – BloodyElbow.com)
Lentz is coming off of a TKO loss to Charles Oliviera at UFC Fight Night 152 earlier this year. Before that, he was on a two-fight winning streak having beaten Scott Holtzman and Gray Maynard.
