UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas is scheduled to fight in the Octagon, this coming May in Brazil. Earlier this month, MMA Fighting confirmed ESPN’s report of the slated fight between Namajunas and Brazilian women’s mixed martial artist, Jessica Andrews. Namajunas’ decision to fight out of Brazil came as a surprise to many as this would mean her moving out of her backyard to defend her strawweight title.
Rose Namajunas last competed in the Octagon against Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 223, marking her first title defense as UFC’s new women’s strawweight champion. Namajunas has since been on a hiatus for 13 months now, making a return all the more anticipating for fans. During a recent interview on the Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Namajunas spoke, in length, about her supposed March return. The strawweight champion was initially scheduled to fight at UFC 235 on March 2nd but was later asked to come in for the UFC 237 card happening in May.
Believe it or not, Rose Namajunas asked the UFC to fight in Brazil against Jessica Andrade. Not sure how many champions would sign up for that experience.

Both Namajunas and Andrade will be featuring in the upcoming bout after wins in their last three outings. Although Andrade will have the home ground fighting advantage, a championship fight against a contender like Namajunas is going to be a tough mountain to surpass. However, UFC fanatics and martial arts enthusiasts can expect a thrilling contest between the two champion fighters, this coming May.
