As an MMA and combat sports fan, where were you five years ago during this same weekend when a young and hungry Conor McGregor was busy making his name and was taking the UFC by the storm, knocking out people left, right and centre and drooling in more and more fans every day with his charisma and gift of the gab. On 19th July, 2014 McGregor had returned to his homeland of Dublin, Ireland to fight Diego Brandao in the main event of UFC Fight Night 46, a few days ago his fight, noted journalist Ariel Helwani had interviewed a fired up McGregor in the arena where the event was supposed to happen. Helwani recently shared the video again, reminding the world of a time when they were witnessing the very vest of Mystic Mac.
Helwani re-shared the interview on Twitter and revealed that it is one of his favorite interviews of all time. McGregor too was highly motivated in that video and shared the instance when he decided to improve his fighting game even further. Below is a quote by McGregor from that interview:
When I watched my first UFC event live. I realized that it can be done, it is right there for the taking if just work a little harder. So that is when I upped my game even more.
Below is Helwani’s tweet:
Five years ago today, I took a stroll in Dublin with @thenotoriousmma. Remains one of my favorite interviews ever. One hour, unedited with my pals @ekc and @allelbows leading the way. Thanks to the great @antevansmma for making it happen. 🎥 @mmafighting pic.twitter.com/lV4BEuBJ8K
