Former UFC champion Fabricio Werdum (24-9-1) has recently expressed interest in a heavyweight bout against Jon Jones, and said he is confident of finishing him.
After his recent victory against heavyweight debutant Alexander Gustaffson, Werdum has a lot of interesting and potential fights to be made. It was his last fight in the UFC contract, and he’s a free agent now. Apparently, he has been approached by top promotions and is in talks with them. Bellator approached Werdum, and the fighter could be in a potential fight with the Russian legend Fedor Emelianenko. Fabricio also talked about a potential contract with ONE championship for a fight against Brandon Vera.
With so many options open, it is entirely possible that the UFC sign him again, given the interesting current dynamics of the Heavyweight division. He said that he will be interested in fighting Jon Jones, after the former UFC light heavyweight champion announced his move to the Heavyweight division. Fabricio just came off a victory against a Heavyweight debutant, but he is aware that Jon Jones is a completely different ball game.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Fabricio Werdum revealed his thoughts on how a fight against Jon Jones would turn out to be:
.@JonnyBones to heavyweight? Former champ @FabricioWerdum says he would "100 percent finish him" in a potential fight. 👀@MMAJunkieJohn's interview: https://t.co/CNeF3sLuZ9 pic.twitter.com/ZzOUbGRN3V

“You know he’s a big guy, and Jon Jones should have zero problems to go to the heavyweight division,” Werdum said. “For sure not. Because he’s a heavyweight for a long-time. He’s a heavyweight. For sure, it’s not happening now, but maybe, I love the idea, one day against Jon Jones. And it’s not like I prep for him, I’m just confident. 100 percent I finish Jon Jones. I finish Jon Jones too. 100 percent. I’m confident, that’s it. I’m training. Good training, my mind’s okay. I finish him and anyone. 100 percent I believe that.”
Is Fabricio Werdum a good fight for Jon Jones?
The heavyweight division of the UFC has become very interesting after Jon Jones announced his move up. After defeating the two-division champion Daniel Cormier in a trilogy fight at UFC 252, Stipe Miocic was successfully able to take back his belt to become the champion. Francis Ngannou has been on a brilliant winning streak, and deserves the next title shot more than anyone else in the division.
UFC President Dana White has also confirmed that Ngannou will be next for the title shot, and not Jon Jones. This brings up the question of who is most likely to fight Jon Jones in his debut Heavyweight fight? Fabricio’s recent claims make this a fight to look forward to.
Who do you think would win this fight?
