On Saturday, April 5, the UFC held UFC Vegas 105 at the Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Featherweight competitors squared off in the main event, where Lerone Murphy faced Josh Emmett.
Murphy had just defeated Dan Ige via decision, his seventh consecutive victory; going into the fight, the British fighter was 7-0-1 in the UFC. In contrast, Emmett had a lengthy hiatus following a knockout victory over Bryce Mitchell in December 2023.
Murphy ultimately prevailed in a decisive decision to earn the greatest victory of his career. Here is what I believe the featherweight contenders should do after UFC Vegas 105.
Lerone Murphy
After defeating Josh Emmett via decision, Lerone Murphy is currently 8-0-1 in the UFC. Although he was knocked down four times by Emmett, Murphy was able to land the more devastating shots to win 117-to-44.
After his victory at UFC Vegas 105, Murphy is getting closer to a title chance and could face a top-five opponent next. The next probable battle would be against sixth-ranked and former title contender Brian Ortega. Given that Murphy merits a well-known opponent like Ortega and Ortega needs a step-down in the rankings, it might be the main event of Fight Night.
Josh Emmett
Josh Emmett concentrated more on his wrestling and didn’t squeeze the trigger sufficiently, landing just 44 strikes. Emmett is now 1-3 in his last four UFC fights and 10-5 overall after the defeat. Emmett can be entertaining in contests and is still a top-10 featherweight.
Emmett’s next bout would be against Youssef Zalal, who just defeated Calvin Kattar. Since the Alpha Male fighter at the moment seemed to be a gatekeeper at the top-10, Emmett makes sense, and Zalal deserves to face a top-10 opponent.
