UFC light heavyweight champ Jon ‘Bones’ Jones might as well have a new challenger.
The pound-for-pound king Jones has been running through every light heavyweight challenger that has been thrown his way with fair ease, except for his last fight were a tough Thiago Santos was able to get the nod of one judge.
Even though perennial contender Jan Blachowicz and prospects Dominick Reyes and Johnny Walker have been making the right noises for a title shot, it is believed that Jones’ biggest challenge is a weight class below, kickboxing wizard Israel ‘The Last Stylebender Adesanya’.
The two have been going back and forth on social media. Speaking with Sky Sport New Zealand, UFC President Dana White agreed for the matchup if Adesanya gets pass through Whittaker at UFC 243 this weekend. (via YouTube):
“Those guys have been talking smack back and forth,” White said. “If Israel wins and he really does want to fight Jon Jones, that’s a really big fight.”
Adesanya having a similar lanky body type with long reach like Jones, was quickly drawn to similarities with Jones. Even though the two have different styles, Adesanya’s kickboxing pedigree is considered by many as a conundrum for Jones. The only problem being Adesanya too small for the light heavyweight weight class as he makes the middleweight class with relative ease as well. However, President Dana White giving the green signal for the fight is a great sign for fight fans.
