Looks like the MMA community will witness the mysterious ‘Fight Island’!

According to UFC President Dana White, the fans could enjoy some action on Fight Island as soon as June 27.

Why Fight Island?

White has always been stern on providing fights despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The UFC however had to face various hurdles before materializing events. The earlier planned UFC 249 on April 18 had to be postponed for the same. The UFC has also been finding it difficult to finalize the location for their events. The organization had to make last minute negotiations to get their hands on the venues.

Therefore owning a private island will solve the problem. White will also be able to promote fights featuring fighters from outside the United States. Speaking in a podcast, he revealed the probable date.

“The first fight on ‘Fight Island’ is probably going to be around June 27 – not July,”

White pulling off the almost impossible!

“Let me tell you about ‘Fight Island,’” White told Hearn. “‘Fight Island’ is so f**king expensive, and so f**king crazy and almost impossible to pull off. When you’re talking about planes flying people in and you have to quarantine people and all these things that we’re going through – it’s f**king insane to be even trying to do this. But I promise you, we will do it and we will pull it off.

“I believe in doing this, it’s going to help grow the sport immensely,” White added. “It’s going to help financially, and many different ways it’s going to help build the sport – and I just know that we can do it.”

The June 27 card has the following fights as of now:

  • Heavyweight bout: Gian Villante vs. Maurice Greene
  • Heavyweight bout: Philipe Lins vs. Tanner Boser
  • Women’s Bantamweight bout: Aspen Ladd vs. Sara McMann
  • Women’s Flyweight bout: Jennifer Maia vs. Viviane Araujo
  • Women’s Flyweight bout: Alexa Grasso vs. Ji Yeon Kim

The card seems short on big fights but is expected to shape up in coming weeks. However obviously nothing, including the location, is set in stone as of now.
