Dana White said UFC 253 which is going to be headlined by Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa is likely going to take place on UFC Fight Island.
UFC 253 is going to take place on September 19 and it will be for the UFC middleweight championship of the world between the current undefeated undisputed champion Israel Adesanya and No.2 ranked middleweight contender, Paulo Costa.
UFC had confirmed the fight but hasn’t yet confirmed the location of the fight. UFC president Dana White just gave us the hint suggesting the fight may likely take place at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.
Israel Adesanya vs Paulo Costa at Fight Island?
While speaking to Complex, Dana White said that he’s looking forward to holding more events on Fight Island. UFC has been holding recent events at UFC Apex at Las Vegas Nevada. White talking to complex said the last event at UFC Apex maybe UFC 252: Miocic vs Cormier after that UFC is most probably heading back to Fight Island.
White said, “We’ll be announcing (the location) soon. But obviously, it’s looking like Fight Island.“A lot of the big international fights are going to be on Fight Island. I told everybody the last time we were there, people sort of thought this was a one-and-done or whatever, it’s not. We’re going to be at Fight Island. Abu Dhabi is going to end up being the fight capital of the world. It isn’t Las Vegas.”
Earlier this week Dana White said UFC is going to run another stint at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.
White also confirmed that UFC 254 which is going to be headlined by UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje is most probably going to take place on Fight Island too. Khabib Nurmagomedov is a massive star in the Middle East and it becomes an obvious option to held his fight on the Island.
Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa fighting for the UFC middleweight championship is another big fight that should be held on UFC fight island. Both the fighters are undefeated and someone’s 0 has to go. Adesanya holds the record of 18-0 in MMA and Costa holds the record of 13-0.
The fights that have taken place on the Island where held under great security and precautions which made it a great success. The relation between Abu Dhabi and UFC has become very strong after the success of all these events.
So if Dana White gets the deal done we may be able to see regular fights on the Fight Island and UFC 252 would be the only event happening in Vegas.
