Robert Whittaker is set to face Jared Cannonier at UFC 254 in October 2020, underneath the highly-anticipated Khabib Nurmagomedov-Justin Gaethje Lightweight title bout. UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, 31, boasts an unbeaten record of 28-0-0 and is ranked second in UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings, after Jon Jones.
Whittaker lost his Middleweight title to Israel Adesanya last October, but he’s right back in the fray after returning and beating Darren Till at UFC Fight Night 174 in a solid victory. Whittaker spoke about Nurmagomedov in a recent episode of Submission Radio. Khabib is also being quoted to fight Georges St-Pierre.
He said, “I’m a huge fan of Khabib. I think he’s phenomenal, honestly.”
“I think what he does is crazy. I think his skillset is amazing. I think his cardio and his endurance is ridiculous. I think he’s amazing, I’m a huge fan.”
“What I like about him more than anything is, for one, he’s a straight character, I really admire and respect that. And two, everybody knows what he’s going to do — every single person and no-one can stop him.
“I think that’s phenomenal.”
“He doesn’t come into fights with new game plans, he doesn’t come into fights, it just doesn’t matter because he just knows that he’s gonna take you down and bash the shit out of you. That’s it every fight. Same game plan, same layout. He knows.”
With Khabib’s “drowning” talk and Justin’s “zone of death,” the UFC 254 main event sounds terrifying 😳 pic.twitter.com/8TyRmbSm5c

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Recent Fights
Khabib returned to the Octagon in Sept 2019 beating Dustin Poirier and unified the Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight title. Nurmagomedov is set to face interim lightweight title holder Justin Gaethje on October 24 at UFC 254. The title unification bout will headline UFC 254. Gaethje could be “The Eagle’s” toughest opponent to date due to his defensive prowess and technical ability. UFC president Dana White has said that Tony Ferguson is next in line to fight Khabib for the title.
Whittaker believes that Nurmagomedov’s streak has been the most impressive he was witnessed in his career and admits that it will be very difficult to beat the Russian. “The Eagle” made his mark in UFC after shocking the world by beating Conor McGregor in 2018, which was the Irish’s last fight inside the octagon.

“The Notorious One” has since then, teased the idea of a rematch despite announcing his retirement from the sport for a second time. Nurmagomedov, undoubtedly boasts a highly impressive streak in his MMA career, having still to register a loss.
Justin Gaethje will have his work cut out when they face off in 2 months time and will have to come out all guns blazing at UFC 254 in October, if he stands any chance of beating the Russian champion.
