Heading into UFC 230, there is no one as excited for the fight as Derrick Lewis himself. Why? Is he looking forward to possibly winning the title? Or is he overwhelmed by the huge stage on which he is now competing? The answer is neither of these, as it lies elsewhere. Derrick Lewis has already won in life.

Derrick Lewis won his fight against Alexander Volkov with a shock comeback knockout punch, after being dominated for most of the early rounds. Since then, he has managed to take himself to the next level, as he was booked for the UFC Heavyweight Title fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 230.

At this point, it is easy to notice that Derrick Lewis’ goals don’t match the goals of other fighters. Where others are worried about winning the Title, Lewis has established himself as a family man, and that he is here fighting for his family. With that in mind, the fact that he has bought a house for his family recently only adds to this image.
On top of that, Lewis has guaranteed money for this fight. He has a contract of sponsorship with Popeye’s Chicken as well, and while there may be more he wants to achieve in life, he has already checked a lot of boxes. So that’s where Lewis is right now, heading into a title fight, not caring whether he wins or loses. Now that’s called winning in life.
