Roman Reigns once again failed to get his hands on the WWE Universal Championship at last week’s Greatest Royal Rumble event. The Big Dog was once again defeated by the Beast Brock Lesnar in a Steel Cage match albeit due to a controversial finish.
PWStream reports that WWE had readied posters, magazine copies as well as promo scripts for Roman Reigns as the WWE Universal Champion. However, Vince McMahon fooled his own employees with the finish once again at the Greatest Royal Rumble.
Per sources: Much like at #WrestleMania, everyone backstage was worked on the result of the Reigns vs. Lesnar match. Posters, magazine copy and promo material all included Reigns as champion following #WWEGRR.

McMahon had pulled off a similar trick at WrestleMania 34 when all the employees were informed that Lesnar would be dropping the title and heading to the UFC. However, that didn’t happen and Lesnar ended up signing one of the most lavishly convenient deals in the history of the sport.
It appears that McMahon is doing this solely to mess with the online dirt sheets. It was reported during the post-WrestleMania week that McMahon had intentionally planned all of it out to mess with the internet pro-wrestling news sites and community.
However, Roman Reigns’ attempts at the Universal Championship have been booked poorly if the WWE still sees him as the poster boy for the company. If that’s not the case anymore, then we might end up seeing a much-awaited heel turn from Reigns very soon.
Recently some rumours suggested that Braun Strowman might end up becoming the face of the WWE and will be the one who will defeat Brock Lesnar. There are not many details or pieces of information from insiders that back these rumours but it is sensible nonetheless.
One thing that will come out of Lesnar’s current reign is that he will break CM Punk’s record of a 434-day reign very soon. Maybe this little piece of information plays a huge role in Reigns’ current booking w.r.t the Universal Title.
