It’s no secret that the 16-time World Champion John Cena has finally decided to become a part-time wrestler. Cena has signed and filmed a number of films in the past year and a half, all scheduled to hit the big screen in the near future.

It was reported by comicbook.com that the leader of the Cenation is all set to play the iconic video game character, Duke Nukem in an upcoming film of the same title. This is a huge deal because Duke Nukem is a beloved figure not only within the gaming community but in pop-culture in general.
The producers of the film, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller recently confirmed Cena’s role in the film. Here’s what the duo said:
Yeah, that’s what we’re working with now. He [Cena] is. Yes. We don’t have a script yet, so that is confirmed at this point but if he reads the script and he doesn’t like the script I’m sure there’s ways that he could pull out, but right now he’s our guy
It is a likely outcome that Cena might pull out of this role because Duke Nukem is the farthest a character can get from the term “family friendly”. Yes, Duke Nukem is a foul-mouthed, flirtatious and ultra-violent anti-hero who is nothing like the character that Cena usually portrays in the WWE.
It was also confirmed by the producers of the film that the tone of the film will be similar to that of 2016’s Deadpool, a Rated R picture:
We are working on Duke Nukem right now. It’s going to be about tone. That’s about tone. How do you nail that tone in the way that Deadpool nailed the tone? I think we have to do that and if we don’t get the tone right then we’re not going to make the movie.
John Cena is also scheduled to star in the lead role in Michael Bay’s Transformers spin-off, Bumble Bee and will also be seen sharing screen space with the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland and Ralph Fiennes in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle.
