Xavier Woods of the New Day was recently interviewed by newsday.com. A question about the sensitive topic of racial issues was brought up and Woods debunked the pointless accusations that were merely based off of speculations.

Woods was out promoting the new WWE book based on the New Day

During the interview, Woods was questioned about the accusations suggesting that The New Day’s usage of “pancakes” is an attempt to perpetuate racial stereotypes. Woods explained that the pancake segments have nothing to do with racism and that it actually originates from a “Lumberjack Match” they had last year.

I said, ‘Well, if I’m a lumberjack, what do they eat? They eat flapjacks.’ It was hilarious. So, we said the next week, ‘Are we going to do pancakes? Yeah, sure. Why not?’ And that’s where the pancakes came from. If there’s ever any source of contention or anything like that, I think that it’s a situation where you should take a look at yourself and think about how deep you are looking into something that’s not really there.

Woods went on to say that Kofi Kingston, Big E and himself are very well aware of how they present themselves. However, he also said that they don’t want their antics to be kept under a racial lens just because of their ethnicity.

Woods ultimately clarified the situation by saying:

All we want is a blank slate. And if people continue to refuse to give us one, then they’re doing nothing more than continuing to hold up the social constructs that we’re trying to break down.

Woods’ stance on the situation is highly professional and praise-worthy. The New Day’s success in the company has been surreal and their popularity grows wider with the passing day.
