Yoel Romero

In December 2020, it was announced that Romero had signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator MMA and is expected to compete in its light heavyweight division in 2021. The promotion announced that Romero would be competing in the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Grand Prix Tournament. He was scheduled to face Anthony Johnson in the quarterfinal round at Bellator 257.

The fight was then postponed and was set to take place at Bellator 258. But unfortunately, Yoel had failed his medicals due to an eye issue and he was pulled from the card, and the Grand Prix Tournament, and was being replaced by Jose Augusto who then eventually lost the fight to Anthony Johnson.

Now Bellator President Scott Coker has revealed that the promotion is now looking to book Yoel again a formidable opponent and want the fight to take place before this year ends. the only thing that was stopping the portion to book Yoel was his medical condition but seems like that problem is now in the past and Yoel Romero is finally declared as medically fit to fight.

“I think he is cleared now, so I think we’ll be looking to book him and have him fight before the end of the year,” Coker told MMA Junkie on Thursday. “I think he’s good to go on all cylinders moving forward. Give us another week or two and we’ll figure it out and put him on a card somewhere.”

The Bellator President Scott Coker also stated that Yoel Romero will be competing in the 205-pound division.

“Yes, he’s going to compete at 205,” Coker said. “I think he said he’s willing to cut, but right now, he’s at 205.”

Yoel Romero wants to Kill somebody in his Bellator Debut

A few months back while speaking to The Schmo, Romero said that his fans can expect to see him compete this summer, and he said he’s looking forward to coming back so he can “kill somebody.”

“The fans can see me very, very soon. Maybe August. Maybe August, maybe 205lbs or maybe 185lbs. I want to fight for the belt in both classes. But I’m coming soon. I’m coming soon,” Romero said. “I want to kill somebody.”

Though Yoel couldn’t start his Bellator career as his plans for August Debut could not take place due to his medical reasons but soon the fight fans will get to see the 44-year-old freak of nature fight in the Bellator.
