Yoel Romero to Paulo Costa: Why is it personal?

Paulo Costa is all set to fight former title challenger Yoel Romero at UFC 241 which will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on August 17.

The pair were scheduled to fight each other back in 2018 at UFC 230 in Madison Square Garden in New York, but the fight fell through when Romero got injured and had to pull out of the fight. Both fighters have had their fair share of trash talking and Costa has promised to make Romero pay for making comments on Costa’s failed drug test and suspension.

However, Romero doesn’t understand the reason behind making the fight personal.

My big question is this: Why is it personal? I’ve never seen that guy in my life,” Romero told MMA Junkie. “I’ve never talked to him. Why is it personal? … Believe me, I don’t know why.”

For me, the most important thing is when I come back, I have a fight,” he said. “I don’t care who the opponent is.”

I think about God. It’s the most important in life. God never loses.” (H/T- MMAJunki.com)

Paulo Costa is coming off of a TKO win over Uriah Hall at UFC 226 last year. On the other hand, Romero is coming off of a split decision loss against Robert Whittaker at UFC 225 last year.
