UFC president Dana White admits that Khabib Nurmagomedov will not be allowed to sit out for a year with the UFC’s lightweight title. Last Month, the Nevada State Athletic Commission stapled a 9-month suspension on the case of Khabib’s role in the infamous UFC 229 post-fight melee. Khabib’s active participation in an anti-bullying campaign would further push the committee to reduce his sentence by three months. However, the champion refused to abide and said he would ideally look to return to the UFC, in November this year.

During the recent UFC 234 post-fight presser, Dana White confessed that the UFC would, in fact, not wait on Khabib’s suspension. The champion would likely be asked to relinquish the belt and fight for its possession, following his future return to the UFC.

Refusing to keep the lightweight division on hold, Dana White has now given other contenders in the division such as Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson, a shot at the title. Both these fighters have been patient through the NSAC’s legal obligations towards the UFC 229 case, making them deserved of at least an interim 155-pound title opportunity. Rumors on Khabib’s return being a speculated bout at a hundred and sixty-five pounds against Georges St-Pierre has also surfaced the news. Although this would probably not come to fruition, the possibilities are seemingly endless.
