Calvin Kattar had vowed to upset UFC’s next title contender Zabit Magomedsharipov in their scheduled fight. However, that was when their original bout was scheduled in October in Kattar’s home town of Boston.
Following a rescheduling, the fight is now set to take place in Zabit’s backyard in Moscow. The two will now meet at UFC on ESPN+ 21 which will take place Nov. 9 at CSKA Arena. The news was initially reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
The change may come hard for Kattar, who will now go from fighting in his home to a fighting in a different nation altogether. Kattar has always aimed for a high ranked opponent. Initially, a pairing between him and Jeremy Stephens was about to take place. However, he ended up fighting the guy that had defeated Stephens. Riding a two fight winning streak, Kattar has vowed to leave behind his lone octagon defeat against Renato Moicano in the past.
Magomedsharipov, as already phrased by Kattar, is one of the most highly touted fighters in the UFC. His performance has been backing up the hype that has been built around him. He has all of his five fights in the UFC, finishing three via submission and bagging the other two by unanimous decision. A win for him will put him in serious title contention along with Alexander Volkanovski.
The UFC on ESPN+ 21 card will be headlined by a heavyweight scrap between Junior Dos Santos and Alexander Volkov. Other fights on the card include Magomed Ankalaev vs. Dalcha Lungiambula, Klidson Abreu vs. Shamil Gamzatov, Gadzhimurad Antigulov vs. Ed Herman and Roman Kopylov vs. Karl Roberson.
