After two futile attempts, the UFC has finally made the fight between Zabit Magomedsharipov and Yair Rodriguez possible. The two featherweights will face each other on the August 29th card, and will likely be headlining it.

The promotion has been trying to make the fight happen since 2018 when it was first booked at UFC 228. However, Yair had to pull out of the fight after suffering from a knee injury. His replacement was found in Brandon Davis, and Zabit could take the W. The match was attempted again this year, and was supposed to take place in April, but got cancelled again due to the pandemic.

Zabit has never been defeated in the UFC and has a phenomenal resume for the fighters that he has previously defeated. Calvin Kattar, who has risen to limelight after UFC came back by defeating Jeremy Stephens and Dan Ige, has also outwrestled by Zabit in their fight in late 2019. His opponent Rodrigues cannot be looked down upon, after he proved his potential after a stunning win against the Korean Zombie.

Magomedsharipov had earlier posted the fight on his Instagram page, and the news was later confirmed by his manager Ali Abdelaziz, who also claimed that 4 out of the 5 main card fights will be players from Dominance MMA.

Two years later, on the third attempt, this fight will still take place“(Translated), .

Zabit or Max, who gets the title shot next?

After a very close fight and a very controversial decision, the Alexander Volkonovski vs Max Holloway fight culminated with Alex retaining his belt, although many people including Dana White might disagree. Dana White had recently expressed his interest in a trilogy fight between the two fighters, even though Alex won both the fights.

“It’s hard to not say we can give Max a rematch for that fight again – do it a third time,” White said when speaking to ESPN. “I think a lot of the fans and the media would agree with that. I don’t know for sure.”

Alex, of course, was not a fan of this idea, and right away dismissed the possibility of a trilogy fight immediately. While speaking to Submission radio, he said that he does not want the trilogy fight immediately while the rest of the division is on standby. He wants to defend his belt against a new contender.

Zabit undoubtedly gets his title shot if he wins against Rodriguez on August 29.

Who do you think will win the fight?
