Former UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has been in contact with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC), but there hasn’t been any positive development toward seeing the Cameroonian in the promotion, as the president David Feldman cites “unrealistic” expectations from Ngannou.
“The Predator” parted ways with the UFC earlier this year, becoming a free agent, in hopes of pursuing a career in boxing, although chances of Ngannou returning to mixed martial arts are still there.
Among several promotions willing to land Ngannou in their roster, BKFC is there, but it appears that the promotion and the fighter are on little common grounds regarding a contract.
Francis Ngannou’s value is starting to drop: David Feldman
During the BKFC 14 press conference on Tuesday, the promotion prez David Feldman was asked about the progress towards signing Ngannou, and the possibility of seeing him pitted against BKFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell.
In his response, Feldman stated that there is uncertainty on whether the two parties will come to an agreement, as he claims Ngannou is demanding too much pay, which the promotion is willing not to.
“Francis Ngannou, he’s somebody we’ve certainly reached out to. We’ve reached out to him, we’ve reached out to his team, and we just feel like he’s asking for unrealistic money, and we’re not willing to pay that kind of money for him,” said Feldman.
The BKFC prez also added that if Ngannou doesn’t come to a decision, it will only decrease his value as a fighter as time passes.
“I do think he needs to make his mind up pretty soon,” Feldman further commented. “As the days go on, his value is starting to drop a little bit.” [H/T MMA Fighting]
Aside from BKFC, several top MMA promotions like Bellator, ONE Championship and PFL have been in pursuit of getting the former UFC heavyweight champ. Ngannou, on the other hand, is likely on a different track, in making his debut as a pro boxer this summer.
