With a heavy heart, Gabriel Braga stepped into the cage for the first time since his father’s tragic death. At the 2024 PFL 3 event, Braga (13-1) kicked off his featherweight season with a bout against Justin Gonzales. The emotional stakes were high as Braga fought to honor his late father.

In the closing seconds of Round 1, Gabriel Braga unleashed a series of powerful punches that sent Gonzales (14-4) sprawling to the canvas. With just one second left on the clock, the referee stepped in to stop the fight. Braga dropped to his knees in the center of the cage, his emotions overwhelming him. He raised both hands toward the sky, a poignant tribute to his father.

Gabriel Braga gave an emotional speech after the fight

Speaking through an interpreter during the post-fight news conference, Gabriel Braga shared his feelings: “He left us, but in leaving us, he left me very ready. Ready for these moments, ready to make him proud, and ready to conquer the world. That’s what I’m here to do.”

Braga’s father, Diego, tragically lost his life in January in Brazil. He was killed by a drug gang while they searched for a stolen motorcycle. Despite the pain of losing a parent, Braga’s unwavering determination and the support of his inner circle kept him going. He continued training, preparing for this PFL season with a singular goal: to become a champion.

“Last year, I feel like I conquered a lot of space within the organization,” Braga stated. “I proved my worth, but this year I’m here to be a champion.”

Braga’s victory at PFL 3 earned him six points in the 2024 featherweight regular season standings. His resilience and dedication serve as a powerful testament to the human spirit, even in the face of tragedy.
