It has come to light that Jose Aldo is set to end his almost two-year retirement and will make his comeback at UFC 301 when he faces Jonathan Martinez in a bantamweight bout on May 4 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Further reports emerged on Saturday following an initial report from AG Fight, and Aldo himself confirmed the bout via his Instagram account.

Aldo, a former UFC fighter, announced his retirement in 2022 after he lost to Merab Dvalishvili, which dashed his hopes of another title shot in the 135-pound weight class. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2023. After his retirement from MMA, Aldo transitioned to boxing and has fought several times including a bout against fellow UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens.
Jose Aldo had been competing in the Bantamweight division, having previously fought at Featherweight. Aldo was also the fourth and final WEC Featherweight Champion.
