Leon Edwards, the reigning UFC Welterweight champion, wants Jorge Masvidal to return to successful stint and earn a title shot against him.

One of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster and the symbolic ‘BMF’ champion, Masvidal is currently on a three-fight losing streak, having lost twice against Kamaru Usman and once against Colby Covington, and hasn’t tasted victory since facing Nate Diaz for the BMF belt at UFC 244 in 2019 November.
With talks of a return fight against Gilbern Burns falling apart, there hasn’t been much Input on when ‘Gamebred’ will be back in the Octagon again. Nonetheless, the 38-year-old has repeatedly called for a title shot and considering his rough past with Leon Edwards, who currently holds the 170-pound belt, the fight would serve both well.
Edwards and Masvidal, while they are yet to lock horns in the cage, were involved in a backstage brawl at UFC London in 2019. Recalling the rivalry to Michael Bisping on the Believe You Me podcast, ‘Rocky’ stated that he still wants Masvidal to earn a title shot against him.
“I don’t like him that much, but I’m rooting for him to win so I can fight him,” said Edwards. “He just keeps losing so it’s hard to make the fight make sense. I even said if he went out there and fought in like December, January … Gilbert [Burns] or somebody, beat one of them, then I’ll fight you in March. Then get Usman in the Summer or something. Let him rest his hands a bit then I’ll fight you in March, but he didn’t even do that.”
“We’ll see. Skillset-wise, it’s two different levels,” the English fighter went on, “his career is doing that, mine’s doing this. It’s hard to make the fight make sense right now. But that’s a fight I need to happen and want to happen.” [H/T MMAFighting]
