ONE Friday Fights 96 got this weekend’s double-header off to a rocketing start on 7 February, as an international lineup of athletes looked to punch their ticket to a US$100,000 contract with ONE Championship inside the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
In the main event, Komawut FA Group took his victory streak to three in a row. He scored a second-round knockout win over Thai compatriot Panrit Lukjaomaesaiwaree in 142-pound catchweight Muay Thai action.
Panrit put his foot on the gas with immediacy. He attempted to catch his foe off-guard and land heavy combinations. However, Komawut was ready and remained on the outside, using his faculties to land better low kicks and cleaner strikes across the opening round.
But in a reversal of the opening round, Komawut turned things around to rush Panrit. And in just 20 seconds, Komawut downed his foe with a huge right hand.
Panrit protested before gathering himself, but Komawut smelled blood in the water and wasted no time in landing another blasting right hand at 0:46 of round two to put him out for the count.
In the featured bout of the night, Abdulla Dayakaev realized his dream of joining ONE Championship after he stormed through Italy’s Alessio Malatesta, needing less than three minutes of their bantamweight Muay Thai bout to do so.
The round started tensely, but Malatesta’s aggression soon saw him bring the fight to his Russian counterpart and land the better strikes. However, Dayakaev weathered the storm and put his Italian counterpart against the ropes.
From there, Dayakaev landed a thunderous straight right to Malatesta’s chest that forced him down for good at 2:37 of round one, securing a US$100,000 contract with ONE Championship.
