ONE Championship took over the iconic Lumpinee Stadium Bangkok, Thailand, on February 14 with another episode of its hottest weekly show in combat sports – this time ONE Friday Fights 97.
The main event produced a nail-biting battle as two-time Lumpinee Stadium Muay Thai World Champion Kongsuk Fairtex edged out Lamnamoonlek Tded99 in three action-packed rounds of 138-pound catchweight Muay Thai.
Given the accomplished repertoires of both men, the pair were neck and neck. But as the seconds became minutes, Lamnamoonlek’s punches began to hold more substance.
In the second stanza, though, the pair unshackled themselves as Kongsuk invited his counterpart into a brawl. As the pair threw hands, Kongsuk dropped the WMC World Champion with a perfect left hook to take control of the contest.
Needing a big final round, Lamnamoonlek chased down the 24-year-old. He pushed his man to the brink, but Kongsuk managed to stay in control and take home the split-decision victory.
Elsewhere, Francisco Vera upset the applecart versus Myanmar’s Vero by producing an enthralling comeback victory in a three-round atomweight Muay Thai contest. Vero pressed the early goings. She landed multiple crisp strikes, tagging her Chilean dance partner consistently. But Vera gave Vero no respect, pushing her back before landing clean punches of her own.
Elbows ensued in the second frame and “Miss Scarface” began to take control of the flow. Those combinations began to drain the gas tank of Vero, who seemed surprised to find herself in deep waters. In round three, Vero fought vehemently to find her way back into the fight. But Vera’s repeated combinations earned her the split-decision win in a career-best showing.
