Aspen Ladd is returning to action this Friday night at PFL 5 against Karolina Sobek, and is looking for a quick first round finish in order to secure her entry into the playoffs.

Start faster, that is the main takeaway: Aspen Ladd

The former UFC fighter suffered a majority decision defeat to Olena Kolesnyk on her season opener at PFL 2 back in April. It wasn’t until late into the fight when Ladd was able to gain some grounds for her own against Kolesnyk and hopes not to make the same mistake against Sobek, and is aiming to get into the offensive and secure a finish as soon as possible.

“Start faster, that is the main takeaway from that. I need to start faster… We have been working on that since I’ve gotten back. My cardio is good and that is never an issue,” said Ladd during a recent appearance on Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com. “The problem is, the longer the fight is, the better I do. So, we have been treating it like a five-minute fight, that is all the time I get.”

It was less than a month when Sobek was finalized for Ladd’s opponent for PFL 5 on June 16th. While she admits to have had less knowledge about the Polish fighter, she has the focus on her performance.

“I’m not familiar with her at all. She fought the same night as me and I saw some of it, and I have done these interviews and some say she is a striker, some say she is a grappler, so I guess she does everything,” she went on. “But, I’m not that all familiar with her but I didn’t even find out my opponent until like a month out, you know potential opponents but don’t know the exact opponent until you are close to the fight.”

Ladd needs six points to sail into the playoffs and a first round finish will earn her that and for the same reason, plans to be aggressive right from the start so she can secure the stoppage in the first round.

“Going into the second fight and needing points, I need a first-round finish and that is the focus… It can change the approach that is for sure. So much is riding on getting enough points to continue, it’s not just the win that matters, it’s the points. I’m learning as I go as far as that goes,” added Ladd.
