Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa are set to collide in the co-main event of UFC 302, scheduled for June. Both fighters are coming off losses in their previous outings – Strickland lost his title to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297, while Costa suffered a decision defeat against Robert Whittaker at UFC 298. Fans can expect a striking battle between these two middleweights, but according to someone who knows them well, there’s a clear advantage.

Caio Borralho opens up on Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa

Caio Borralho, a former sparring partner of both Sean Strickland and Costa, recently shared his prediction for the fight. Speaking ahead of his own UFC 301 clash against Paul Craig, Borralho highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of each fighter:

“It’s a good fight, because it’s two top guys in the division… I see ‘Borrachinha’ is a little bit stronger than Strickland. I see the danger in his game will be around his kicks, his high kicks that he does without effort, and they’re very strong kicks.”

He continued “But I think as a matter of MMA, and experience and gas tank, and boxing, Strickland is way ahead of him. It will be a five-round fight so I think it could be an easy night for Strickland, for sure.”

Borralho acknowledges that Costa hits harder and possesses dangerous kicks. However, he believes hat Costa’s gas tank and overall MMA experience fall short compared to Strickland.

Caio Borralho sees Sean Strickland as having a significant advantage in experience, boxing skills, and cardio. Strickland’s economical style and ability to maintain a high pace over five rounds could prove decisive.

Borralho’s prediction suggests that while Costa may have power, Strickland’s well-rounded game and endurance could lead to an “easy night” for the American fighter.
