Francis Ngannou might have entered his professional boxing debut as an underdog, but he’s achieved a stellar milestone- to be ranked in the top 10s of the heavyweight rankings, declared by none other than the WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman.
Francis Ngannou is “better than most of the heavyweights in the top 10”: Ngannou’s coach quotes Sulaiman
The former UFC heavyweight champion squared off against WBC champ Tyson Fury on Saturday night in Riyadh in a 10-round, none title fight which ended with a controversial split decision for Fury.
Despite being the favourite, Fury found himself in trouble multiple times against Ngannou, and even dropped to the canvas in the third round, and kept of struggling against the pressure from his opponent. At the end of the fight, however, it was “The Gypsy King” who won the favour of two out of the three judges to come out victorious, albeit raising many eyebrows.
Following the contest, MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn got in touch in Ngannou’s coach Dewey Cooper, who informed that the WBC prez Mauricio Sulaiman was going to rank Ngannou among the top 10 heavyweights.
“Mauricio Sulaiman, the president of the WBC, said he’s going to rank him in the top 10 because he’s better than most of the heavyweights in the top 10. He said that in the ring,” Cooper told Bohn.
