Alex Pereira, the towering figure at 6’4″, is undoubtedly one of the most physically imposing fighters to grace the Octagon. His unique distinction as the first-ever multiple-weight class champion in Glory Kickboxing showcases his ability to transition between weight divisions without compromising power—a feat rarely seen in combat sports. Now, he aims to replicate this success in the UFC.

Alex Pereira’s Move to Light Heavyweight

Pereira’s decision to move from middleweight to light heavyweight came after his knockout loss to Israel Adesanya in their title rematch. Reports suggest that weight-cutting can affect a fighter’s ability to absorb punches, which may have influenced Pereira’s choice. During a recent interview on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Pereira disclosed his weight on fight night for both divisions. And the numbers have left fans shaking their heads in disbelief!

Alex Pereira explained the Difference Between the Weight Cut for Middleweight and light Heavyweight and how different was the experience for him-” I am going to do my weight cut, 4 kilos about calm, completely different from what Middle weight was. When I remember that, damn it makes me happy i am good stron not hungry or thirsty.

“Middle weight, around this time I would do a part of weight cutting at night leave the rest of the cutting in the morning. I would wake up with a mouth dry, hungry. It was a little complicated.Thats that. I am very happy”

When Alex Pereira fought at 185 pounds (middleweight), he entered the cage weighing around 210 pounds. After rehydration, food intake, and other factors, his fight-night weight would typically be around 216 pounds. Regardless of the weight class, during training camp, his weight hovered between 210-215 pounds.

In his light heavyweight debut against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291, Pereira weighed approximately 103 kilograms (224-225 pounds) on fight night. This significant increase from his middleweight fight-night weight showcases the challenges of moving up to 205 pounds. Despite the jump in weight, Pereira’s performance was impressive, securing a victory via decision.

Fans were left in astonishment when Alex Pereira revealed these jaw-dropping weight figures. His colossal appearance in the cage against Blachowicz highlighted the stark contrast between the two weight classes. While middleweight fighters typically cut less weight, Pereira’s move to light heavyweight required a substantial adjustment, emphasizing the physical demands of competing at a higher weight.
