Demetrious Johnson, mixed martial arts legend, believes Francis Ngannou should stick to boxing only, as MMA has nothing left to offer him anymore.
He’s beaten the best of the world in mixed martial arts: Demetrious Johnson
Last Saturday night, Ngannou gained much acclaim and praise for going all 10 rounds against WBC heavyweight champ Tyson Fury in a non title match in Riyadh. Despite being the underdog, Ngannou held his own in a brilliant manner against Fury, even dropping the Brit in round three.
Despite losing his boxing debut via split decision, Ngannou has gained acceptance from boxing fans for his display of skills in the squared circle. The former UFC heavyweight champion, who switched sides with PFL, is yet to decide his next move, but Demetrious Johnson believes that “The Predator” should bid adieu to MMA and stick to boxing only.
“Francis won that fight and he looked absolutely amazing,” said Johnson on YouTube. “What’s next for Francis? I don’t think I wanna see Francis do mixed martial arts. I know that might be hard to hear, but I don’t see why PFL cannot do boxing. Why don’t PFL do boxing? You have one of the biggest stars in boxing right now, Francis, who just beat the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Tyson Fury.”
“I wanna see Francis box. I don’t wanna see him do mixed martial arts,” he went on. “We’ve seen him do mixed martial arts. He’s beaten the best of the world in mixed martial arts. He’s been a world champion. There’s nothing left for him to do in that sport. I wanna see him do boxing. He’s gonna make big money in boxing. He could fight Anthony Joshua. He could fight Deontay Wilder. The gates have just opened up.” [H/T BJPenn.com]
