During the filming of the upcoming movie “Road House,” Hollywood superstar Jake Gyllenhaal encountered a harrowing incident that has left him with a nasty infection.

The 43-year-old actor, alongside former UFC double champion Conor McGregor, is starring in this remake of the 1989 cult classic, originally starring Patrick Swayze. Gyllenhaal is portraying a former UFC fighter named Elwood Dalton who is currently a bar bouncer in the Florida Keys after retiring from his fighting career.

Jake Gyllenhaal says the cut during McGregor fight scene turned into staph infection

During one intense fight scene with McGregor’s character :Knox” involving a lot of breakaway glass, Gyllenhaal inadvertently sliced his hand open on a piece of sharp glass. While making an appearance along with the UFC star during a recent episode of “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard” Gyllenhall revealed about the accident, adding that the cut he suffered from it resulted in a staph infection.

“We’re fighting on the floor, we’re fighting around tables. We’re fighting around glass, even if it’s breakaway glass,” the Academy Award nominee said, “I put my hand on the bar, fucking straight glass. … I felt the glass go into my hand.”

Staph infections occur when bacteria infiltrate open wounds, causing skin rashes, swelling, and, in severe cases, life-threatening complications if left untreated. Gyllenhaal’s hand swelled up, and he soon realized that his diligent efforts to care for his body during filming had not entirely shielded him from harm.

“There were things like that that happened all the time. But gratefully I was really, really trying to take care of everything that we did and my body while we’re doing it. I didn’t sustain any major injuries, which is a testament to the team I was working with,” Gyllenhaal added. [H/T Huffpost]
