Eagle FC head and former UFC Lightweight world champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has stated that he is eager to work with Bellator MMA to book the final career fight of Fedor Emelianenko against Junior dos Santos.
Khabib wants Emelianenko’s retirement fight to be against dos Santos
Fedor Emelianenko, one of the greatest mixed martial artists who haven’t been part of the UFC, is set to make his final career appearance this summer and in picking the Russian’s final opponent, Khabib has wished for former UFC Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos, who is currently a part of the Eagle FC roster.
“Cigano” is currently set to make his Eagle FC debut against Yorgan De Castro in a title eliminator fight at Eagle FC 47 on 20th May and at the event’s press conference, Khabib stated that if dos Santos comes out victorious in his promotional debut, he would like to see the Brazilian compete in Bellator and be the final opponent for Emelianenko, a former PRIDE and WAMMA heavyweight champion.
“If Dos Santos wins, I really want to make Dos Santos versus Fedor,” said Khabib, “He has to focus on Yorgan next because Friday he has a tough opponent. He has to stay focused but I want to talk to my friend Scott Coker because Fedor is under Bellator contract. I don’t know what they’re going to do next with him but definitely we can talk and we can create some good stories.”
“Why not?” the Russian went on pitting the two heavyweight veterans against one another, “Because these two guys were the face of MMA. Fedor is the greatest fighter of all time, in my opinion, and Dos Santos was champion for a couple of years in UFC. These two guys they deserve [it] and the fans deserve [it] and for me it’s a very interesting matchup, too.” [H/T BJPenn.com]
