Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway recorded a huge victory this past weekend, but it’s only good enough for second place in the Hawaiian’s Octagon career. Let’s dive into the details of this memorable moment and how it stacks up against other milestones in Holloway’s career.

On the milestone UFC 300 pay-per-view card, Holloway faced off against Justin Gaethje for the symbolic BMF (Baddest Motherf****r) title in the lightweight division. Given how his first venture to 155 pounds in the UFC played out, many were expecting “Blessed” to fall short on April 13. However, that was far from the case. Holloway put on a masterclass for the best part of five rounds, showcasing his striking skills and resilience.

As the final seconds ticked away in the fifth round, Holloway performed his patented late stand-and-bang gesture, following it with one of the most memorable moments of all time: he slept “The Highlight” with just one second left on the clock. The knockout was brutal and perfectly timed, earning him the BMF title and etching his name in UFC history.

But here’s the twist: Holloway himself doesn’t consider this moment as the pinnacle of his career. During a post-fight interview with Chamatkar Sandhu for Sony Sports Network in India, he reflected on his successful night inside T-Mobile Arena.

Max Holloway opens up on the best moment of his career

While acknowledging the significance of the UFC 300 win, Max Holloway insisted that his unifying title victory over José Aldo in enemy territory back in 2017 will likely never be surpassed. He said, “The José Aldo, going to Rio (against) the ‘King of Rio,’ that’s always going to be my number one. Doing what I did against Aldo was amazing, so this has gotta be two”.

So, while the Gaethje knockout was spectacular, Holloway’s legacy remains firmly tied to his historic win over Aldo. Nevertheless, his latest triumph shows that he continues to enhance his legacy in mixed martial arts, and there’s still plenty left for “Blessed” to achieve inside the Octagon. Whether it’s a featherweight title showdown with Ilia Topuria or more BMF super fights, Max Holloway’s journey is far from over.
