Michael Chandler showers appraisal on his former opponent
Chandler, who had previously faced Poirier at UFC 281 in November 2022, didn’t hold back. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the former Bellator lightweight champ lauded “The Diamond’s” technique.
“I’d venture to say it’s the best hook in the MMA world as we speak. He does it so well, and I’m not certain, but rumor has it he’s right-handed but fights from southpaw, which makes his lead hand his most dominant hand. Kudos to ‘The Diamond’!”
But what about other contenders? Chandler also weighed in on Alex Pereira, the current light heavyweight champion known for his lethal left hook. When asked about Pereira’s hook, Chandler diplomatically stated that he rates it lower on his list. Clearly, Poirier’s right hook has left an indelible mark on the MMA landscape.
In their last clash at UFC 281, Chandler faced Poirier and suffered a submission defeat in the third round. Now, Chandler has his sights set on another challenge: a showdown with Conor McGregor. If all goes according to plan, Chandler aims to finish McGregor emphatically and then pursue a title shot against Islam Makhachev.
