No matter what happens in the combat sports scene, there’s one question that’s always looming within the minds of the fans- when will Conor McGregor make his much awaited return to the Octagon?

McGregor vs. Chandler- potentially the biggest fight of the year

“The Notorious” has been out of action since breaking his leg in the Dustin Poirier trilogy fight back in July 2021 at UFC 264. A prolonged recovery phase was followed by speculations of his comeback, although nothing concrete has come up so far.

There’s one huge lead, however, that there’s a huge chance McGregor’s return fight will take place against Michael Chandler- the charismatic UFC lightweight who was McGregor’s opposing coach at TUF, and the two have already formed a grudge rivalry between them, with occasional callouts at one another.

However, the question still remained: whether McGregor vs. Chandler fight will happen this year, and the former double champ has been positive that his return is happening in this summer.

McGregor, who is currently all over the headlines for his upcoming feature film debut in “Road House” which will air on 21st March, spoke to ESPN recently about fighting Chandler in June.

“We got confirmation a few days ago that it’s all systems go,” said McGregor about the June fight, which he had earlier stated would take place on 29th June at UFC 303. Although, there has been no word from the promotion about the fight so far.

Conor McGregor says he had been skipping training

A former featherweight, lightweight and welterweight contender, McGregor had said that his return against Chandler would be in middleweight. Talking about his preparations for the bout, the Irishman admitted that he had skipped training for some time, but is now happy that he has resumed training full-fledged.

“I had [my training] camp in Dubai [months ago], I had a camp in Cannes,” the former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight champ added. “I was preparing, and then I was kind of getting nothing back. And then other things came up and I kind of dipped out. But now, it’s on. So, there’s no messing now. I cannot dip out now.”

Whether or not the fight between McGregor and Chandler will actually take place this year is still cloudy. However, there has been quite some progress and willingness on both fighters’ parts in trying to finalize the bout, and if all the pieces of the puzzle are properly arranged, fight fans would be treated with a Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler UFC event this summer.
