UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler is gearing up for a high-stakes showdown against the notorious Conor McGregor. The fight, scheduled for June 29th at UFC 303, promises fireworks as Chandler aims to put an end to what he believes could be the greatest comeback in combat sports history.
After a three-year hiatus, McGregor is set to return to the Octagon. His absence was marked by movie stardom and personal ventures, but now he faces a formidable opponent in Chandler. The two coaches from Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter will finally settle their differences inside the cage.
Michael Chandler’s Patience Pays Off
Chandler, who last fought in November 2022 (a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281), has been patiently waiting for this moment. His career took a dramatic turn when he suffered an ankle break during a trilogy fight against Poirier. Now, he’s ready to make a statement against McGregor.

Dana White’s announcement that the fight will take place at welterweight means McGregor will have a size advantage over Chandler. However, the gritty fighter from Missouri remains undeterred. In an interview with the New York Post Sports, Chandler expressed his conviction:
“You have to buy this PPV because this could be the last time that you ever see Conor McGregor fight. I truly believe that what I’m going to do to him on June 29th is going to warrant and merit him never stepping back into the Octagon. With that being said, Conor might be able to pull off the greatest comeback in combat sports history.”
Conor McGregor’s Comeback Potential
McGregor has a history of comebacks. In 2020, he returned after a two-year hiatus to knock out Donald Cerrone. Now, Chandler acknowledges the possibility of witnessing another remarkable resurgence. He added:
“(I’m) arguably the most exciting guy to ever set foot in the UFC Octagon. What I have made in my masterpiece that I’ve been painting in the last couple of years with the UFC, it is two of the most explosive and exciting guys, two of the most intriguing guys, and possibly the greatest comeback in combat sports history, or Conor McGregor’s last fight in MMA”
