The fourth night of the Big Bout league ended with Punjab Panthers defeating Bombay Bullets 5-2. The fights took place at the Gautam Buddha University in Noida.
Day 4 of the Big Bout League featured Indian boxing legends like MC Mary Kom and Manoj Kumar alongside rising stars like Kavinder Singh Bisht, PL Prasad etc.
In the first bout, A Khalakov of Punjab Panthers defeated the 2019 Asian Amateur Boxing Championship silver medalist Kavinder Singh Bisht. After getting dominated by Bisht in the opening round, the 19-year old Youth Olympic Games champion Abdulmalik Khalakov came back strong in the second round by scoring a knockdown and then beating Bisht to the punch in the third round. He also won his first fight against Ibrahim of Odisha Warriors in men’s 57kg category.
In the second bout, PL Prasad of Panthers defeated Anant Chopade of Bombay Bullets. This was an important fight for Prasad who had lost his first fight against Deepak of Warriors in the men’s 52 kg category. Prasad countered Anant all night with hard body and head combos.
In the third bout, Manisha of Punjab Panthers defeated Mellisa Naomi of Bullets with utmost ease cruising to a UD victory in the 60kg women’s category.
2010 commonwealth games gold medalist Manoj Kumar from Punjab and Naveen Boora from Bombay went back and forth in the fourth bout of the night in the 60 kg category. He pulled a massive upset as he defeated Manoj via UD.
“I am glad to open the account for my side. It was a tough one with Manoj Kumar, and I am really happy to have come out on top. Hopefully, we can win a few more now!” – Naveen Boora said after his fight.
In the fifth bout the night, six-time world champion MC Mary Kom of Punjab Panthers took on Bullet’s Ingrid Valencia, who also won a Bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio. It was one of the best fights of the night. Both boxers went back and forth throughout the fight. However, it was Mary Kom who emerged victorious in the 51 kg women’s category.
“I am fighting since the past 20 years, and physical fitness is something I have worked on immensely. When you have that, it’s really hard for your opponent to beat you!” – Mary Kom said after the fight.
In the sixth bout the night, Naveen Kumar of Punjab Panthers defeated Emmanuel Reyes of Bullets in the 91 kg category.
In the final bout of the night, Prayag Chauhan of Bullets defeated Mohit in the 75-kg category.
