Ilia Topuria is having none of UFC Featherweight Champion Alex Volkanovski’s shenanigans as the former has shot back after the latter’s scathing verbal attack.
Volkanovski will have his shot to bounce back from a brutal knockout loss to Islam Makhachev when he faces Ilia Topuria on February 17 at UFC 298. “The Great” will put his belt up for grabs against Ilia Topuria at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Topuria never backs away from expressing his confidence ahead of the bouts and this time around, he called himself the UFC featherweight king as a manifestation technique.
Alexander Volkanovski takes a shot at Ilia Topuria
Alex Volkanovski recently shared a training update video on his YouTube channel and during the same, he confidently said that Ilia Topuria will be unable to take the featherweight championship away from him.
“He thinks he’s the man, let’s see if he is,” Volkanovski said. “I’m ready for the best version that turns up February 17th. So, let’s see what we have in store. I’m gonna be ready either way. I see he’s confidence, he’s a cocky, confident young dude. Let’s see if he can really bring it ’cause I know I’m gonna, and I can’t wait to show him levels. I’ve seen a lot in my game, I still feel like I’m in my prime, and I get to show this young kid that there’s levels, and I am the king of this division and he ain’t taking nothing from me. I’m coming for that zero.”
Ilia Topuria responds
Taking to his Twitter/X account, Topuria decided to fire back at Volkanovski. He vowed to knock out Volk in the first round and feels that the Aussie fighter has become old and should retire. Here is what he wrote:
“If you think someone can imitate me, that means that your last fight has left you with lasting effects! I will knock you out in the first round. You’re old, it’s time to retire. It is time to move on and make way for the new era of Topuria.”
We will have to wait and see if Volkanovski responds.
